A Tough Summer for the Garden

Where’s the okra? It’s mid July and there has been very little okra on the tables at the Farmers Market. Our plants are doing well, but are just now producing fruit. We have no explanation for why it’s so late; apparently everyone is experiencing the same situation.

Our tomatoes are having trouble setting fruit too. We were sure that last week’s lower temperatures would do the trick. While okra loves the hot weather, tomatoes prefer about 90 degrees to set fruit. We are happy with the sweet potatoes. This picture is one of three (3) rows of sweet potatoes, this row is flanked by okra.
